Birthday Book Club turned Yoga Party

Book Club last night ended up being quite eventful. We had 3 birthdays in January, so we were celebrating them that night. It was Kristin, Tiffany and Michelle's birthdays, so I made a cake that ended up being more like a huge giant brownie, but it was still delicious. And they were the recipients of the face cloths as well.

I also had the chance to give the gals that weren't there last time their Christmas presents.

*Amy's scarf (on the left) was crocheted out of Lion Wool 100% wool in Lemongrass. The pattern is the "One Skein Scarf" from Stitch n' Bitch Crochet The Happy Hooker. I modified it a bit though, by leaving one dc row out to make it skinnier.

*Kristin's scarf (on the right) was knit using Lion Brand Jiffy double stranded. I used the Alpaca Warmer pattern from kpixie.com, which can be found here: http://www.midnightknitter.com/knitpixiepatterns/uploads/alpaca_warmer.htm

Then after we finished eating Kristin's delicious Tomato soup with baguettes, and cake/brownie goodness, the conversation turned to yoga. Amy is certifying to be a yoga instructor, so we coerced her into showing us some moves. Just a typical book club really, 5 minutes talking about the book, 2-3 hours of everything else!

There is Amy showing us a balance pose. Then there is Me trying it out, and be lucky enough to have Lindsey catch the split second shot that I was actually up.

In this one I was trying to balance while clasping my hands together under my legs. Amy is there holding me up. Needless to say, I need practice!

Holiday Scarfs for the Buds

I wanted to knit scarves for my friends for Christmas, but only had 2 weeks to do it, so my last 2 weeks have been filled with the sound of those clickin' needles! My hard work paid off though, and I got them done in the nick of time. I wanted them to all be different, and I tried to fit the pattern and color to the personality of each recipient.

I'm getting started in January next year.

Lindsey had mentioned that she loved this scarf one time while looking through my magazines, so this scarf was the inspiration to do scarves for everyone.
Lindsey's Scarf was "Dandy" from the Autumn/Winter Edition of Rowan Magazine no.38. I used Caron Simply Soft for the black, Bernat Softy Chunky for the pink, and Red Heart Sport for the white.

Ok, Michelle's scarf was the Chic Knit Buttonhole scarf pattern. http://www.chicknits.com/olive.shtml I used Lion Brand Chenille Thick and Quick in Antique White.

Nicole's scarf definitely took the longest, but I loved how it turned out. It was super soft, but also sparkley with is hard to come by.

The pattern for this one came from Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts Magazine. It was the "Huckleberry Ascot" pattern by Kay Coyle. I used Moda Dea Cherrio yarn in the color Amethyst . It had the smallest guage of all the scarves I did, and I upped the needle size to 8's. It was supposed to be done with 6's.

I loved doing this funky chunky scarf. This one was crocheted and took the least amount of time. I loved everything about this scarf, the color, the texture, the time... everything! And doesn't Tiffany look cute in it?

This pattern was Knit Pixie's Alpaca Weave Scarf. http://www.midnightknitter.com/knitpixiepatterns/uploads/alpaca_weave_scarf.htm I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick yarn in the color Citron, and I doubled the yarn.

*The rest of the gals couldn't make it to book club that night, so I will post the rest of the pics when I give 'em to 'em!
